The Type 42 is the supercar people actually drive. Audi built it to be usable — visibility, ride, a trunk — and then let it look like that anyway. Two decades on it's still the one that gets pointed at, and the tail lights are the last surface anyone sees.

Every function runs on LEDs, so each one lights up instantly and evenly with none of the warm-up lag or burnout cycle of filament bulbs. The turn signal fires as a sweep rather than a single flash, and the full pattern runs once as a startup animation each time the lights power on. No external controller, nothing to configure once the harness is plugged in.
Two builds. Smoked Red darkens the whole rear end and is the closer of the two to a factory-plus look. Clear White shows a white bar behind a clear lens — the version that changes the character of the car rather than sharpening it, and the lower-priced of the two. Switched on, both builds light red.
Check how your factory turn signal flashes before ordering. This is the one fitment detail that matters on a Type 42, and it depends on the car's market wiring, not on the engine or the model year:
- Factory amber turn signal (a separate amber lamp flashes): supported on all 4.2L V8 and 5.2L V10 cars. The decoder is built into the assembly and installation is plug-and-play.
- Factory red turn signal (the red brake lamp flashes): not supported as plug-and-play. On this wiring the brake and turn circuits are combined in the factory lamp, so the sequential sweep and startup animation will not run without rewiring. Most US-market cars are built this way.
Built on patented optical technology and independently tested for vibration, mechanical shock, and corrosion resistance. The lens is UV-stable polycarbonate, so it holds its clarity instead of yellowing after a few summers.
On supported cars, installation is plug-and-play into the factory harness, with integrated anti-flicker decoders — no hyper-flashing, no dash errors.

These sequential LED tail lights completely changed the look of my Audi R8. I was looking for something that would give the car a more modern and aggressive appearance without losing the factory style, and these were exactly what I wanted.
The fitment was excellent — they lined up perfectly with the original mounting points and the installation was straightforward. The sequential turn signals are probably my favorite feature. They give the rear end a much more exotic look, especially at night when the LEDs light up.
The quality surprised me as well. The housing feels solid, the lighting is bright and clean, and everything works smoothly with no errors or issues. They look like they could have come from a newer generation R8.
