Important: This online guide is a fitment-aware overview for the matched RIGNOX product. Before removing original parts or connecting wiring, review the installation reference images on this page and confirm the connector layout, transferred parts, wire routing, and vehicle-specific fastener locations for your exact vehicle.

Safety warning: Do NOT use dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets. Grease can cause connection problems and may affect warranty coverage.

Before you begin

  • Vehicle: 2009-2012 Toyota RAV4 tail light installation.
  • Tools confirmed from the reference images: ratchet wrench, 10mm socket, and pry tool.
  • Power and trim protection: Switch the vehicle off before unplugging rear lamp connectors. Protect hatch trim and painted liftgate edges while prying clips.
  • Harness choice: This guide shows different flat-light harness references. Match the harness on your kit to the vehicle connector before final assembly.

Remove the outer cornering tail lights

  1. Remove the cornering-light side trim: Start with the side trim next to the outer tail light. Release the clips shown in the reference image instead of pulling from one corner.
  2. Remove the two 10mm lamp screws: Use a 10mm socket on the two fasteners holding the cornering light.
  3. Release the upper trim clip: Use a pry tool on the upper side-trim clip before forcing the lamp out.
  4. Remove the lower side-trim screw: Use the 10mm socket on the lower side-trim screw shown in the reference image.
  5. Open the cargo floor trim: Fold the trunk mat inward and remove the lower center cargo trim. The reference image marks the bottom clips.
  6. Release side trim and unplug the lamp: Pry the cargo side trim open only enough to reach the cornering-light harness connector. Unplug by the connector body.
  7. Pull the lamp out along the guide pins: Pull the outer cornering lamp straight rearward in the direction shown. The starting area includes ball-joint style retainers.
  8. Repeat on the other side: The left and right outer lamps use the same removal method.

Remove the liftgate trim, emblem trim, and flat lights

  1. Remove upper liftgate trim in sequence: Remove the small center trim first, then the side trim pieces. Follow the clip locations marked in the reference image.
  2. Remove the liftgate handle cover: Find the handle gap and pry the handle cover up carefully.
  3. Remove the handle screws: Use a 10mm socket to remove the two handle screws. Repeat the same method on both sides.
  4. Remove the liftgate center trim: Use the pry tool on the center trim panel clips shown by the arrows.
  5. Remove the emblem trim nuts: Use a 10mm socket to remove the four nuts holding the emblem trim panel.
  6. Remove the flat-light retaining nuts: Remove the three nuts shown in the reference image and unplug the tail-light power connector.
  7. Pull the trim and flat light straight outward: Pull perpendicular to the liftgate to release ball joints and clips. Avoid twisting the trim against the painted panel.
  8. Repeat on the opposite side: Use the same liftgate flat-light removal method for both sides.

Install the RIGNOX tail lights and route the harness

  1. Route the connecting wire first: Lift the cargo side trim and route the connecting wire as shown in the reference image. Pass the wire through the rubber grommet and secure it with zip ties.
  2. Pass harness and program switch through the body opening: Feed the lamp harness connector and program switch through the sheet-metal opening, then seat the rubber body plug in the panel.
  3. Install the outer cornering lamp: Align the lamp with the body and tighten the two 10mm screws shown in the reference image.
  4. Connect the cornering lamp harness: Connect the lamp harness to the vehicle harness and connect the cornering-lamp extension wire. Repeat the same method on both sides.
  5. Install the flat liftgate lamp: Align the ball studs and clips. During installation, make sure the vehicle weather seal is not trapped or folded under the lamp.
  6. Tighten the flat-lamp retainers: Tighten the three retainers shown in the reference image without over-tightening plastic mounts.
  7. Connect the flat lamp harness: Connect the flat-lamp harness to the vehicle harness and to the flat/cornering extension wire. Repeat on both sides.
  8. Reinstall the emblem trim: Align the trim with the sheet metal and flat-light clips, then tighten the four emblem-trim nuts.
  9. Finish the trim: Tidy wiring, secure all loose harness sections, and reinstall the cargo trim, liftgate handle, liftgate trim, and cornering-light side trim.

Rear harness and pin check

  • Program switch button: The reference image identifies a program switch button in the rear harness assembly. Keep it accessible during testing before final trim is installed.
  • Flat-light harness: The reference image shows separate domestic-version and Taiwan-version flat-light harness references. Use the harness that matches your kit and vehicle connector.
  • Cornering-light harness: The cornering-light harness plugs into the vehicle harness and connects through the extension wire.
  • Pin labels shown in the reference: Taiwan flat-light harness: green driving, white reverse, black ground, blue fog light. Domestic flat-light harness: white reverse, green driving, black ground. Cornering-light harness: green driving, red brake, black ground, yellow turn signal. Extension wire: brown signal, red brake, yellow turn signal.
  • Do not cut or repin by guesswork: Use these labels for confirmation and function testing only. If a connector does not match the reference, stop and contact RIGNOX support with photos.

Function test before trim reassembly

  1. Reconnect power temporarily and test parking/running light, brake light, turn signal, reverse light, hazards, and startup animation if equipped.
  2. For RGB variants, confirm the controller powers on and app functions respond before reinstalling all trim.
  3. Check that no wire is pinched by liftgate trim, cargo trim, the rubber grommet, or the weather seal.
  4. After final assembly, close the liftgate slowly and confirm both lamps sit flush with even gaps.

Troubleshooting

  • One lamp does not power on: Recheck the main harness connector and extension wire connection for that side.
  • Reverse, brake, or turn function is wrong: Compare the installed connector with the pin labels in the reference image. Do not move pins unless RIGNOX support or a qualified installer confirms the correction.
  • Trim will not sit flush: Check for a trapped harness, misaligned ball stud, or folded weather seal.
  • RGB/app feature does not respond: Confirm the product variant supports RGB, the controller has power, and pairing has been completed.
