1997-2018 Jeep Wrangler TJ & JK 7-Inch Round LED Projector Headlights Installation Guide

Step-by-step RIGNOX installation guide for the 1997-2018 Jeep Wrangler TJ, LJ, JK and JKU 7-inch round LED projector headlights. Covers tools, removal, adapter harness connection, function test, and troubleshooting notes.

Important: This online guide is a product-side overview for the matched RIGNOX product. It covers what is in the box, how the kit is wired, and what to check before and after fitting. Confirm hidden vehicle-side fasteners, trim clips, and wiring access points on your exact vehicle before removal.

Safety warning: Do NOT use dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets. Grease can cause connection problems and may affect warranty coverage.

Product image checkpoints

  • Compare the rear of each new lamp with the original you removed — mounting tabs, connector position, and overall depth — before installing.
  • Identify the included adapter harness and match it to the factory headlight plug before you start.
  • Do not add universal electrical parts such as resistors or decoders unless RIGNOX support confirms they are needed.

Product notes

  • Each lamp uses a single bi-function LED projector for both low and high beam.
  • The daytime running light is white. The turn signal flashes, and a startup animation runs when the ignition is switched on.
  • Black Housing and Chrome Housing versions share the same projector, lighting functions, wiring and fitment.
  • Original trim, retaining ring style, and fastener locations differ between Wrangler generations and other 7-inch round headlight vehicles. Remove parts slowly and verify each fastener before pulling.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the exact product: Check that both lamps and the adapter harness are present and undamaged before removing anything from the vehicle.
  • Work powered down: Park on level ground, switch the vehicle off, and disconnect the negative battery terminal when handling wiring.
  • Work one side at a time: Leaving the opposite side assembled gives you a reference for connector routing and lamp seating.
  • Protect body panels: Use clean towels or masking tape near painted edges around the grille and fender.
  • Do not force clips: If a lamp or trim panel does not move, stop and look for another fastener or locating pin.
  • No grease on connectors: Do not apply dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease to connectors or sockets.

Tools and supplies

  • Trim removal tool or panel clip tool
  • Phillips and flat screwdrivers
  • Socket and ratchet set; verify exact sizes on the vehicle before removal
  • Clean microfiber towels and masking tape
  • Electrical tape and zip ties for securing the included adapter harness
  • A wall or flat vertical surface for beam-pattern checking

Remove the original lamps

  1. Gain access to the headlight retainer: Depending on the vehicle, this means removing the grille or the trim bezel around the headlight. Locate every fastener before releasing any of them.

  2. Release the retaining ring: Remove the screws holding the retaining ring. Do not turn the separate beam-adjustment screws, or the mounting position will change.

  3. Pull the lamp forward and disconnect it: Support the lamp, release the connector, and pull on the connector body, never on the wires.

  4. Keep the original hardware: The factory retaining ring and screws are reused to hold the RIGNOX lamp.

Install the RIGNOX lamps

  1. Connect the wiring: Connect the included adapter harness between the factory headlight plug and the RIGNOX lamp. Confirm every plug is fully seated and locked.

  2. Test before you close anything up: With the lamp still loose, switch on and confirm low beam, high beam, the white daytime running light, the turn signal, and the startup animation.

  3. Seat the lamp: Place the lamp in its mounting bucket with the tabs aligned, then refit the retaining ring and screws. The lamp should sit flat without being forced.

  4. Secure the harness: Tuck the adapter harness away from sharp edges, moving parts, heat, and water paths, then refit the grille or bezel.

  5. Repeat on the opposite side, then reconnect the negative battery terminal.

Electrical and function test

  1. Confirm low beam and high beam operate on both sides.
  2. Confirm the white daytime running light, turn signal, and hazard flash on both lamps.
  3. Confirm the startup animation runs when the ignition is switched on.
  4. Check for dashboard warnings, flicker, or hyperflash before reinstalling final trim.
  5. Verify beam aim against a flat vertical surface so the cutoff is safe and even.

Final check

  • All connectors are locked, dry, and routed without tension.
  • The adapter harness is secured away from heat, water paths, moving parts, and sharp edges.
  • Both lamps sit flat in their buckets with the retaining rings fully tightened.
  • All lighting functions pass on both sides.
  • No warning lights, flicker, hyperflash, abnormal heat, moisture issue, or loose wiring remains after a short check drive.

Troubleshooting

  • One lamp does not turn on: Recheck the adapter harness connections at both ends, the related fuse, and the battery connection.
  • Warning message, flicker, or hyperflash: Confirm both sides are wired the same way, then contact RIGNOX support before adding any universal load resistor or decoder.
  • Moisture appears: Light condensation may clear as the lamp warms. Heavy or persistent moisture should be documented with photos before continued use.
  • Beam pattern is too high or uneven: Recheck lamp seating first, then adjust aim on a flat surface.

Need help?

If the original lamp, vehicle connector, or included harness does not match what you received, stop before modifying wiring. Contact RIGNOX support with your order information, vehicle year/model/trim, and clear photos of the connector area, rear housing, beam output, and installed lamp.
