Modern factory headlights do more than light the road. They switch high beam on and off by themselves, steer into corners, level when the truck is loaded, and on some vehicles carve a dark spot out of the high beam around oncoming cars. Every one of those functions lives somewhere specific: some in the vehicle, some in the lamp. When you replace the lamp, what lives in the vehicle keeps working and what lived in the lamp is gone. Knowing which is which is the whole answer to "will my [feature] still work."
If the feature is a signal the vehicle sends to the headlight, it carries over. If the feature is a motor, a sensor, or a per-segment controller inside the headlight, it does not, and no aftermarket assembly can bring it back.
The feature-by-feature answer

Why AHB survives and ADB doesn't
They sound similar and are often sold under the same "adaptive" label, so this is the distinction that causes the most confusion.
Auto High Beam is a decision, not a beam. The camera watches for headlights and tail lights ahead; when it sees them it switches the whole high beam off, and when the road is clear it switches the whole high beam back on. The headlight's only job is to be on or off. Any headlight can do that, so the function carries over intact.
Adaptive Driving Beam is a beam, not just a decision. Instead of switching the high beam off, the vehicle keeps it on and dims only the segments pointing at the other car. That requires a headlight with many independently driven segments and a data connection to the vehicle's controller that tells each one what to do. Aftermarket headlights have neither: the projectors are grouped, and the lamp has no data link, only power lines for low, high, DRL and turn. So the vehicle sends per-segment commands to a lamp that can't hear them, the high beam behaves as a normal high beam, and the vehicle notices its segments are missing. If your factory lamp says Matrix, Pixel, Adaptive LED, or AHS with a segment count, this is what you are giving up. The part we want you to read before you order: ADB vehicles need an extra module
Every RIGNOX headlight has CANbus decoders built in, and on most vehicles that is all that is needed for an error-free install. Vehicles that came with factory ADB or matrix headlights are the exception. The built-in decoder handles the vehicle's bulb-load checks; it does not answer the vehicle's per-segment communication, so an ADB vehicle will report a headlight fault after the swap. Clearing it requires an additional error-canceling module specific to the vehicle, over and above what is in the lamp.
We would rather tell you that now than after the lights are on the truck. If your vehicle had factory ADB or matrix headlights, contact us with your year, model and trim before ordering and we will tell you exactly what the install needs and whether the result is what you want. For most owners of these vehicles the trade is worth it (a sharper, brighter conventional beam plus the look, in exchange for a function they rarely noticed working), but it is your call, and it should be an informed one.
How to find out what your factory headlight has
Owners frequently don't know whether their truck came with adaptive lighting, because the higher-trim features aren't labeled on the lamp. Three quick checks:
- The window sticker or build sheet. Look for "Adaptive Front Lighting," "Adaptive Headlights," "Matrix," "Adaptive High Beam," or "Auto-Leveling." Plain "Auto High Beam" or "High Beam Assist" is the simple version and is fine.
- Turn the wheel with the low beams on, engine running, parked facing a wall. If the beam swings with the wheel, you have AFS.
- Look at the dash while a passenger gets in and out. On an auto-leveling vehicle you can sometimes see the beam settle on the wall as the load changes. A dash leveling dial means manual leveling, which is lost but harmless.
If any of those show adaptive behavior, send us the trim before you order.
The carry-over rule. Auto headlights, auto high beam, DRL logic and turn signals are vehicle-side and carry over. Leveling motors, swivel motors and matrix segments are lamp-side and do not. If your factory lamp was matrix or ADB, budget for an extra module and talk to us first.
The short version
- A feature carries over if the vehicle only needs to send the lamp a signal. It is lost if it needed hardware inside the lamp.
- Auto headlights, Auto High Beam, DRL behavior, turn signals: work.
- Manual/auto leveling motors and swiveling AFS: not present; AFS trims are not listed as compatible.
- ADB / matrix high beam: lost on any aftermarket lamp, and the vehicle will need an extra error-canceling module beyond our built-in decoder. Contact us before ordering.
