The option menu on a RIGNOX tail light is short: a Clear or Smoked lens, and a Red, White, RGB or Digital light bar. Headlights are simpler still: clear lens, black housing, with RGB or halo accents on some models. The menu is short on purpose, but the combinations still trip people up, because the right answer has nothing to do with the light on its own. It depends on the truck it's going on: the paint, the finish, and the kind of build you're putting together.
This guide comes from the side of RIGNOX that most customers never see. To photograph every product on every vehicle, our team has spent the last year pairing lenses and light bars with hundreds of paint colors and build styles, and the same patterns keep winning. Here they are, organized the way we organize our own work: by the four kinds of build we see most.
Pick the lens for the finish of the build, and the light bar for the color of the paint. Smoked for dark, matte and blacked-out; Clear for bright, glossy and finished. Red for warmth and depth; White for precision; RGB or Digital only when the paint is loud enough to be the theme.
First, what each option actually does to the look
- Smoked lens. Darkens the rear when the lights are off, reads as one piece with a black housing, and hides the internals until they light up. Lens tint is moderate on every RIGNOX model: the brake, turn and reverse stay bright red, amber and white through it, and it is the finish most owners run daily. It rewards darker or matte paint and any blacked-out trim.
- Clear lens. Shows the light bar and the black interior as a finished, technical piece, like a factory sport trim from a higher trim level. It rewards glossy, bright, or metallic paint where the rest of the car already looks "done."
- Red light bar. The classic. Warm, deep, and reads as OEM-plus. It ties into dark paint and any red accent (calipers, stripes, badges) and never looks out of place.
- White light bar. Cooler, sharper, more modern. It pulls the rear toward a European or JDM look and pairs with silver, blue, white and any build that leans precise rather than aggressive.
- RGB / Digital light bar. App-controlled color (RGB) or segment-addressable animation (Digital). These are show features, and they only look intentional when the paint gives them a theme to follow: a purple car running purple, a teal car running teal. On a neutral truck they read as random. On the road, keep them red; the brake light is always red regardless.
Truck: Smoked lens, black housing, red light bar
The full-size and mid-size pickup build that is meant to look tougher than it left the dealer. This is the most common build we see and the one with the clearest answer.
Paint that works: deep, steady colors. Burgundy, dark blue, charcoal, forest green, bronze. Gloss metallic, fine-flake, or a heavy satin; you don't need pearl or gradients here. A black roof, two-tone with a black lower, or a matte-black section (hood, fenders) all push it further.
What it's usually running: all-terrain tires, blacked-out bumpers, dark or bronze wheels, wider fender flares, a leveling or lift kit.
The pairing: Smoked lens for the blacked-out rear, black housing to match the trim, Red light bar for depth and warmth against the dark paint. White reads slightly too clean for this build; it belongs on the Street truck below. RGB is rarely the right call here; the theme of a truck build is toughness, and a color-shifting bar cuts against it.
Off-road: Smoked lens, black housing, red or white light bar
The overland and trail build. Function-first, weather-worn on purpose, and everything on the vehicle is there because it does a job.
Paint that works: low-saturation, environment colors. Cactus green, olive, desert tan and khaki, earth brown, terracotta orange. Matte, satin, or a low-gloss finish; black roof and black flares as a functional two-tone rather than a styling one.
What it's usually running: roof rack, rooftop tent, winch, bull bar or bumper armor, snorkel, AT or MT tires, auxiliary lights.
The pairing: Smoked lens, no question; a clear lens looks too polished next to a winch and mud. Black housing. For the light bar, Red on greens, browns and tans (warm on warm); White if the build leans toward the technical, expedition look with a lot of black and silver hardware. Skip RGB entirely; it is the one build where a color mode looks like it wandered in from a different vehicle.
Tuner: the widest menu, and the one that needs a theme
Sport compact and JDM builds where the goal is visual impact. This is where every option on the menu gets used, and where the choice matters most, because a loud car with the wrong lights looks unfinished rather than bold.
Paint that works: high-saturation and high-personality. Cyber purple, electric blue, fluorescent green, bright orange, rose pink, cyan, bright yellow, acid green, teal. The finish is wide open: gloss, pearl, metallic, candy, color-shift, gradients, two-tone, racing stripes and livery. Black roofs, carbon panels and two-tone bodies are common.
What it's usually running: low and wide. Coilovers or air, wide-body kit, wing, aftermarket wheels, carbon hood, colored calipers, exhaust.
The pairing: Both lenses work, and they say different things. Smoked for the darker, meaner version of the build. Clear when the car is glossy and detailed and you want the rear to look as finished as the wheels. For the light bar, this is where RGB and Digital earn their place, with one rule: the light follows the paint. A purple car in purple, a teal car in teal, a two-tone car in the accent color. When the paint is a single strong color, a matching RGB mode makes the whole car read as one idea. When it isn't, a White bar on a clear lens is the sharpest, most JDM-correct choice, and Red on smoked is the aggressive one.
Street: restrained, complete, expensive-looking
The sports sedan, coupe and street-truck build that wants to look like a higher trim rather than a modified car. More restrained than Tuner; the whole car has to hang together.
Paint that works: dark, premium, or sports-car colors. Bright silver, deep red, dark blue, British racing green, copper and gold, racing yellow, bright blue. Gloss metallic, pearl, or satin in a single color; a contrasting roof, a center racing stripe, a quiet two-tone or a touch of blacked-out trim, but not all of them at once.
What it's usually running: body kit or lip, side skirts, a modest wing, lowered ride height, performance wheels, big brakes, carbon in a few places.
The pairing: This is the build where the lens choice is really a mood choice. Smoked + Red is the aggressive version, at home on dark and red paint. Clear + White is the refined version, and it is the one that looks most like factory sport trim on silver, blue, green and white cars. RGB works only if the car is already a color statement (racing yellow, bright blue); on a British-racing-green car it undoes the restraint that makes the build work.

Headlights: fewer choices, same logic
Every RIGNOX headlight uses a clear lens over a black housing, because a tinted headlight lens fails the output requirement and isn't legal on the road; the blacked-out look comes from the housing. What you're choosing at the front is the projector layout (Dual, Triple or Quad, which changes beam shape, not brightness; see the projector guide) and, on some models, RGB or halo accents. The accent rule is the same as the rear: match the paint, and keep it white or amber on the road.
Three ways people get it wrong
- Clear lens on a matte, blacked-out truck. The rear suddenly looks like it belongs to a cleaner, shinier vehicle. Smoked is the answer on anything matte.
- RGB on a neutral car. Without a strong paint color to follow, a color mode looks like a decision that was never made. On grey, silver, black and white cars, choose Red or White and let the car be the car.
- Buying the light bar color for the light, not for the paint. The bar is on for a fraction of the time the car is parked. Choose the combination that looks right with the lights off, on your paint, in daylight. That is how everyone sees it most of the time.
The short version
