2009-2024 Nissan GT-R R35 LED Quad Projector Headlights Installation Guide

Step-by-step RIGNOX installation guide for 2009-2024 Nissan GT-R R35 quad projector LED headlights, including how the daytime running light connects on 2009-2011, 2012-2014 and 2015-2024 cars.

Important: This online guide is a general overview for the matched RIGNOX product. Confirm hidden vehicle-side fasteners, trim clips, and wiring access points on your exact vehicle before removal.

Safety warning: Do NOT use dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets. Grease can cause connection problems and may affect warranty coverage.

Matched product

  • SKU: H-GTR09

Before you begin

  • Know your model year: The daytime running light (DRL) connects differently on 2009-2011, 2012-2014 and 2015-2024 cars. Check your year before you start and follow the matching step below.
  • No adapter harness: Every connector is on the back of the RIGNOX headlight. Use the ones that match your car and leave the others unplugged.
  • Confirm the exact product: Compare the RIGNOX headlights to the product page images, including rear housing, plug layout, and lens style.
  • Work powered down: Park on level ground, switch the vehicle off, and disconnect the negative battery terminal when handling wiring.
  • Protect body panels: Use clean towels or masking tape on the painted edges around the headlights, bumper cover, and fenders.
  • Do not force clips: If a lamp, bumper cover, or trim panel does not move, stop and look for another fastener or locating pin.
  • No grease on connectors: Do not apply dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease to connectors or sockets.

Tools and supplies

  • Trim removal tool or panel clip tool
  • Metric socket and ratchet set; verify exact sizes on the vehicle before removal
  • Phillips and flat screwdrivers
  • Clean microfiber towels and masking tape
  • 2009-2011 cars only: wire connectors or a fuse tap, and a test light or multimeter to find a switched (ignition-on) 12V source
  • A wall or flat vertical surface for beam-pattern checking
  • A helper for turn-signal and high-beam testing

Remove the original headlights

  1. Open the hood and locate the headlight mounting points. Remove only the trim, covers, clips, or bumper fasteners needed to reach them on your car.
  2. Remove the mounting bolts while supporting the lamp with one hand so it does not drop.
  3. Release the lamp: Pull the headlight forward along its locating pins. Do not pry against painted panels.
  4. Disconnect the factory connectors: Press each lock tab and pull by the connector body, not by the wires.

Install the RIGNOX headlights

  1. Main connector: Plug the factory headlight connector into the matching connector on the back of the RIGNOX headlight and push until the lock tab clicks.
  2. Daytime running light — by model year:
    • 2015-2024: Nothing extra. The DRL works through the main connector.
    • 2012-2014: Connect the DRL lead from the RIGNOX headlight to the factory DRL connector in the bumper harness.
    • 2009-2011: These cars have no factory DRL connection. Splice the DRL lead into a switched (ignition-on) 12V source. Never connect the DRL directly to the battery.
  3. Unused connectors: Leave any connector your car does not use unplugged, and secure it with a zip tie so it cannot rub or rattle.
  4. Test before mounting: Reconnect the battery, turn on the lights, and confirm every function works (see the test below) before fastening the lamp.
  5. Seat the lamp: Align the locating pins and press the headlight straight in until it sits flush with the hood, fender, and bumper.
  6. Reinstall the bolts and tighten evenly, without over-tightening the plastic mounts.
  7. Reinstall the trim and any bumper fasteners you removed, then repeat on the other side.

Electrical and beam test

  1. Confirm the DRL on both sides.
  2. Confirm low beam, then high beam.
  3. Confirm left and right turn signals with the stalk, then the hazards: the DRL shifts to amber and the turn signal sweeps in sequence.
  4. Confirm the welcome scan when the lights power on — the high-beam projector turns briefly, then settles into position. This is normal.
  5. Check for dashboard warnings, hyperflash, or flicker.
  6. Check beam aim against a flat wall and adjust with the aim adjusters on the back of the headlight.

Final check

  • All used connectors are locked; unused connectors are secured.
  • 2009-2011 cars: the spliced DRL connection is insulated and secured away from heat and moving parts.
  • Both headlights sit flush with even hood, fender, and bumper gaps.
  • All lighting functions pass on both sides, and the beams are aimed correctly.
  • No warning lights, flicker, or hyperflash after a short check drive.

Troubleshooting

  • DRL does not light: Recheck the DRL step for your model year. On 2012-2014 cars, check the bumper DRL connector; on 2009-2011 cars, check that the source you spliced into has power with the ignition on.
  • One headlight does not turn on: Recheck the main connector lock, the related fuse, and the battery connection.
  • Warning message, flicker, or hyperflash: See hyperflash and bulb-out warnings.
  • Still dark: Work through LED headlight or tail light not working.

Before you call it done

After the Install

No DRL plug in your harness? Vehicles that never had daytime running lights need the DRL lead wired to a fuse that switches with the key: how to find the right fuse with a test light, and how to tap it safely.

Aim the low beams before you drive at night; a projector an inch too high blinds oncoming traffic: the 25-foot wall method, and where the adjusters are on this housing.

Fast-blinking turn signals or a bulb-out message after the swap is a load issue, not a fault: how to tell hyperflash from flicker, and what to check first.

A thin mist inside the lens after a cold night is normal on any vented lamp: the automaker rule for fog vs a real leak.
