2007-2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Sequential LED Tail Lights Installation Guide

2007-2020 Toyota FJ Cruiser Sequential LED Tail Lights installation guide

Important: This online guide is a fitment-aware overview for the matched RIGNOX product. Before removing original parts or connecting wiring, review the installation reference images on this page and confirm the connector layout, transferred parts, wire routing, and vehicle-specific fastener locations for your exact vehicle.

Safety warning: Do NOT use dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease on connectors or sockets. Grease can cause connection problems and may affect warranty coverage.

Before you begin

  • Vehicle/product: 2007-2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Sequential LED Tail Lights.
  • SKU check: Confirm your kit SKU or variant matches T-FJ before removing original parts.
  • Reference-first workflow: Review the installation reference images on this page before removing trim or connecting wiring. This guide includes confirmed details from the available reference text and images.
  • Power and safety: Switch the vehicle off before unplugging connectors. Disconnect the negative battery terminal when handling wiring, fuse taps, or exposed circuits.
  • Protect the vehicle: Use clean towels or masking tape around painted panels and trim edges. Do not force clips or pry against painted surfaces.
  • No connector grease: Do not apply dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease to connectors or sockets.
  • Rear lamp note: Leave trunk, hatch, cargo, or tailgate trim open until every lighting function passes testing.

Reference image checkpoints

  • Connector layout: Compare each vehicle connector, adapter harness, and included extension wire with the reference images before powering the RIGNOX tail lights.
  • Inner and outer lamp sequence: If the vehicle has trunk-lid, hatch, through-light, or outer corner lamps, remove and reinstall them in the sequence shown in the reference images.
  • Harness routing: Route linking harnesses through the indicated grommets or trim paths. Keep wiring away from hinges, latch movement, weather seals, exhaust heat, and sharp sheet-metal edges.
  • Transferred parts: Move cameras, brackets, BLIS modules, bulb holders, seals, or decorative plates only when the matching reference image shows that transfer.
  • RGB/app variants: Confirm controller power, pairing, mode change, and local road-lighting use before final trim reassembly.

Confirmed reference details

  • Signal-location check: The reference separates vehicles with the turn signal on the rear bumper from vehicles with the turn signal in the original tail-lamp assembly. Choose the matching method before wiring.
  • Bumper-signal version: Remove the original lamp and two bulbs, insert the RIGNOX socket into the original socket holder, match white to the red/yellow reverse wire, and use the black/white body wire as negative.
  • Bumper-signal turn wire: The yellow RIGNOX signal wire takes signal from the rear-bumper lamp. The reference shows connecting it to the blue wire on the original bumper-lamp socket.
  • Tail-lamp-signal version: Remove the original lamp and three bulbs. The new lamp socket plugs into the original socket without polarity selection for the shown connection.
  • Tail-lamp-signal turn wire: The yellow RIGNOX signal wire is connected to the pink wire on the original socket in the reference image.
  • Function test: Test reverse, running/brake, and turn-signal functions before final reassembly.

Tools and supplies

  • Trim removal tool or panel clip tool
  • Metric socket and ratchet set; confirm the exact socket sizes against the reference images before removal
  • Phillips and flat screwdrivers
  • Clean microfiber towels and masking tape for painted trunk, hatch, tailgate, and quarter-panel edges
  • Electrical tape and zip ties for securing included harnesses only
  • A helper for brake-light and turn-signal testing

Remove the original tail lights

  1. Open rear access: Open the trunk, hatch, or tailgate and remove only the trim panels, access covers, cargo liners, or clips shown in the reference images.
  2. Expose lamp fasteners: Fold back liners or sound insulation carefully so clips can be reused during reassembly.
  3. Support the lamp: Hold the lamp with one hand while removing nuts, bolts, screws, clips, or bulb holders.
  4. Disconnect vehicle connectors: Press each lock tab and pull by the connector body, not by the wires.
  5. Release locating pins or ball studs: Pull the lamp in the direction shown in the reference image. Do not pry against painted body panels.
  6. Repeat by section: If the product includes inner lamps, outer lamps, through-lights, or hatch lights, repeat the removal process in the shown sequence for each section.

Install the RIGNOX tail lights

  1. Compare assemblies before mounting: Compare the removed original tail light and the RIGNOX tail light. Transfer bulb holders, seals, cameras, brackets, modules, or decorative pieces only when the matching reference image shows that transfer.
  2. Connect the main harness: Match each included connector to the corresponding vehicle connector and confirm the lock tab clicks into place.
  3. Route linking harnesses: Run extension wires, through-light harnesses, controller wires, or decoder wires along the exact trim or grommet path shown in the reference images.
  4. Secure wiring before mounting: Use zip ties to prevent rubbing, pinching, water pooling, or contact with hinges, latch movement, weather seals, exhaust heat, and sharp metal edges.
  5. Seat and fasten the lamp: Align locating pins, ball studs, clips, and body gaps. Tighten original retainers evenly without over-tightening plastic mounts.
  6. Reinstall trim last: Leave trim open until every electrical function passes testing.

Electrical and function test

  1. Test parking/running lights, brake lights, left and right turn signals, hazards, reverse lights, fog light if supported, and startup animation if equipped.
  2. For through-light or linking-harness products, test both sides before reinstalling hatch, trunk, or cargo trim.
  3. If a camera, BLIS module, bulb holder, resistor, decoder, or controller was transferred, confirm that related vehicle functions have no warning message.
  4. For RGB/app variants, confirm controller power, app pairing, normal mode, RGB mode, speed/brightness controls, and the mode required for road use.
  5. After all tests pass, reinstall trim panels and close the trunk, hatch, or tailgate slowly to confirm no wire is stretched or pinched.

Final check

  • All connectors are fully seated and locked.
  • All included harnesses are secured away from movement, sharp edges, water paths, and heat sources.
  • Both lamps sit flush with even body gaps, properly seated seals, and no trapped harness under the weather seal.
  • All tail lights functions test correctly on both sides with a helper operating the controls.
  • No warning lights, hyperflash, flickering, abnormal heat, moisture entry, or loose modules remain after a short function check.

Troubleshooting

  • One tail light does not turn on: Recheck the main connector, side-specific extension wire, and any plug-in adapter shown in the reference images.
  • Brake, reverse, running, or turn function is wrong: Stop and compare the connector choice and wire routing with the reference images before moving pins or changing wiring.
  • Warning, flicker, or hyperflash appears: Confirm any included decoder, resistor, or harness adapter is installed exactly for this product and vehicle trim.
  • Trim will not sit flush: Check for a trapped harness, misaligned clip, folded weather seal, or incorrect grommet position.
  • RGB/app feature does not respond: Confirm the product variant supports RGB, the controller has power, and the app or remote is paired before closing trim.
