• No connector grease: Do not apply dielectric grease or weather-sealing grease to connectors or sockets.
• Rear lamp note: Leave trunk, hatch, cargo, or tailgate trim open until every lighting function passes testing.

Reference image checkpoints

• Connector layout: Compare each vehicle connector, adapter harness, and included extension wire with the reference images before powering the RIGNOX tail lights.
• Inner and outer lamp sequence: If the vehicle has trunk-lid, hatch, through-light, or outer corner lamps, remove and reinstall them in the sequence shown in the reference images.
• Harness routing: Route linking harnesses through the indicated grommets or trim paths. Keep wiring away from hinges, latch movement, weather seals, exhaust heat, and sharp sheet-metal edges.
• Transferred parts: Move cameras, brackets, BLIS modules, bulb holders, seals, or decorative plates only when the matching reference image shows that transfer.
• RGB/app variants: Confirm controller power, pairing, mode change, and local road-lighting use before final trim reassembly.

Tools and supplies

Remove the original tail lights

1. Remove the right-side panel and subwoofer cover: Use a small screwdriver to pry open the right-side access panel and disconnect its plug, then use a 3/16-inch hex key to remove the four screws securing the subwoofer cover and remove the cover.
   
   
   
2. Remove the subwoofer assembly: Use a 10 mm socket to remove the subwoofer mounting fasteners, then carefully lift the subwoofer assembly out of the vehicle.
   
   
3. Remove the rear threshold trim: Remove the screws securing the rear threshold trim, lift the trim away from the cargo floor, and pull back the side carpet liner.
   
   
   
4. Remove the cargo floor panel: Remove the cargo floor fastener, then lift and remove the cargo mat and floor panel to expose the tail light access area.
   
   
   
5. Disconnect the factory tail light connector: Locate the electrical connector behind the interior liner, press the locking tab, and disconnect the factory tail light wiring harness.
   
   
6. Remove the factory tail light: Use a 10 mm socket to remove the three mounting nuts, gently push the sealing section outward and pull the tail light assembly from the body, then rotate the bulb sockets counterclockwise to remove them from the factory tail light.
   
   
   

Install the RIGNOX tail lights

1. Connect the turn-signal wire (US-spec FJ Cruiser): On the US-spec FJ Cruiser the rear turn signal is in the tail lamp, so this is the one connection you make by hand. The yellow wire on the new tail light is the turn-signal wire. Remove the turn-signal socket base from the back of the new light, keeping the yellow wire. Then connect the yellow wire to the PINK wire on the factory turn-signal socket. That socket no longer holds a bulb. Crimp or solder the joint and insulate it. A joint that is only twisted together can work loose and cause fast flashing. The other plugs go straight into the factory sockets: the white wire on the reverse plug matches the red/yellow wire, and the white/black wire on the factory socket is negative. The anti-hyperflash load for these tail lights is built in, so the tail lights themselves need no extra resistor.
   
   
2. Install and secure the new LED tail light: Insert the bulb sockets and wiring harness into the corresponding openings on the new tail light and rotate them clockwise to lock, align the locating pins with the body openings, push the tail light into position, and tighten the three 10 mm mounting nuts from inside the vehicle.
   
   
3. Reinstall the interior components: Return the carpet liner, cargo floor panel, and rear threshold trim to their original positions and secure all fasteners, then reinstall the subwoofer assembly, reconnect its plug, and secure the mounting fasteners and outer cover.
   
   
4. Test all lighting functions: Activate the parking lights, brake lights, turn signals, and reverse lights, and confirm that the new LED tail lights operate correctly.
   

Electrical and function test

1. Test parking/running lights, brake lights, left and right turn signals, hazards, reverse lights, fog light if supported, and startup animation if equipped.
2. For through-light or linking-harness products, test both sides before reinstalling hatch, trunk, or cargo trim.
3. If a camera, BLIS module, bulb holder, resistor, decoder, or controller was transferred, confirm that related vehicle functions have no warning message.
4. For RGB/app variants, confirm controller power, app pairing, normal mode, RGB mode, speed/brightness controls, and the mode required for road use.
5. After all tests pass, reinstall trim panels and close the trunk, hatch, or tailgate slowly to confirm no wire is stretched or pinched.

Final check

• All connectors are fully seated and locked.
• All included harnesses are secured away from movement, sharp edges, water paths, and heat sources.
• Both lamps sit flush with even body gaps, properly seated seals, and no trapped harness under the weather seal.
• All tail lights functions test correctly on both sides with a helper operating the controls.
• No warning lights, hyperflash, flickering, abnormal heat, moisture entry, or loose modules remain after a short function check.

Troubleshooting

• One tail light does not turn on: Recheck the main connector, side-specific extension wire, and any plug-in adapter shown in the reference images.
• Brake, reverse, running, or turn function is wrong: Stop and compare the connector choice and wire routing with the reference images before moving pins or changing wiring.
• Fast flashing (hyperflash): These tail lights have the anti-hyperflash load built in, so the tail lights themselves need no external resistor. Check that the yellow wire is firmly joined to the pink wire on both sides and that the turn-signal socket base has been removed from the new light. If you replaced the factory flasher relay, put the original relay back. If the front turn signals have been changed to LED bulbs, the front circuit no longer draws enough load and will flash fast: add a separate 50W load resistor for the front turn signals, or go back to the factory front bulbs. The resistor gets hot, so mount it securely away from wiring and plastic parts. If you installed our FJ headlights, make sure both of their resistor boxes are plugged in.
• Trim will not sit flush: Check for a trapped harness, misaligned clip, folded weather seal, or incorrect grommet position.
• RGB/app feature does not respond: Confirm the product variant supports RGB, the controller has power, and the app or remote is paired before closing trim.
